every journey begins with….

30/10/2007

well.. (probably simultaneously) a first step and an expletive… sooo: Fuck it! Here we go (again)….

Awhile ago I used to have an mp3/audioblog associated with my myspace page. Mostly just out of convenience. Since then though, myspace has fallen out of favour (although I admit to missing being blasted by my friend’s musical flavour-of-the-day/week/hour/minute whenever I visit their page), plus, posting on there was kind of a hassle anyways.

Sooo I finally set up a blog independent of any external site, and of course, with me being cursed with perfectionist tendencies, it has sat there while I try and make it look the way I want it to. Which of course, will take forever because that part isn’t particularly fun — it doesn’t feel creative at all, even though it kind of should. So here it is, not the way I want it. And to to be honest with myself, it’ll probably be FOREVER until I make it the way I want it, because this works, and this is more about having somewhere to write than anything. I basically just find it really relaxing/fulfilling to have somewhere to write about whatever I’m excited about at the moment. And it kind of serves as a record of what music I was feeling at the time.

So lets get on with it then: the two tracks I’m posting are both covers:

Peter Bjorn & John – Young Folks (Pete Yorn Cover)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

: First is Pete Yorn covering the Peter Bjorn & John song “Young Folks”… this cover is actually really good, while being different enough to avoid the over-played feeling the original now has. (which is why we have remixes, hey?) It’s hilarious that this is his reaction to being asked by people if it was him who wrote the song (Pete Yorn , Peter Bjorn & John… reasonably similar name,…. I GUESS)

Massive Attack – Teardrop (Jose Gonzalez cover)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

: The other track is Teardrop, originally by Massive Attack, covered by Jose Gonzalez, who coincidentally, is coming to Vancouver November 24th! I saw him perform with Zero 7 at last years Bumbershoot, but I had been looking forwards to just hearing him on his own – they combined the two at the last minute (although I’m pretty sure their playing together was a regular thing). Definitely check out his latest album, “In our nature,” very relaxed, very beautiful.

So there. I broke the seal. Finally, and imperfectly. TA-DA!
